Recently news about people passing on due to cancer has become very common place. We hear the stories and our hearts cry out, we shed tears, we mourn our beloved ones with all that we have, but the one thing we often forget to do is get informed and even more importantly, get tested. The truth is that just like us, no one ever thinks it can happen to them but almost everyone who ever suffered from a disease simply didn't think they needed to get tested until it was almost too late. The Uterus, commonly called the womb is an organ located in the pelvis of females. Its function is to support fetal development until the birth of a baby.Uterine Cancer is the abnormal growth of any cells that comprise of uterine tissue.

CAUSES OF UTERINE CANCERS

No one knows the exact causes of uterine cancers, however some risk factors have been identified to include the following;

• Women with endometrial overgrowth (i'm not an Ob-gyn, google is your friend)
• Obesity
• Women who have never had children
• Menses beginning before the age of 12
• Menopause after age 55
• estrogen therapy
• taking Tamoxifen (medically used for the treatment of breast cancer, for further information ask Google)
• radiation to the pelvis
• family history of uterine cancer
• lynch syndrome (erm...Google)

COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF UTERINE CANCER

• abnormal vaginal bleeding ( if you ever notice abnormal bleeding/discharge outside of your regular menstrual cycle please ensure that you see an ob-gyn)
• abnormal vaginal discharge
• pain when urinating
• pain during sex
• pelvic pains

Uterine cancers may be diagnosed via pelvic exams,  biopsy's and ultrasounds.
